Those languid Parisians are now real fitness freaks (although they still manage to balance things out with a fine respect for indulgence). Gyms and fitness clubs are a penny a barrel, the parks are rife with cardio bunnies and adventure sports are trés chic.

boating

On an airy summer's day get onto the cool of the water - float down the Seine (or the Marne, the Oise or any of the city's canals) in a canal boat. Rentals are available year-round.

Suddenly I thought: wasn't coming to this place the reason I had continued on my journey for so long? I was brought here by a countless series of coincidences. I just realized what one of the big draws of travel is for me - the complete and utter ecstasy of not knowing anything about what's going on. I was looking through photos of Paris and I only have one that I'm the subject of. I'm on top of Arch de Triomphe. The background: a metropolis of some twelve plus million francophone speakers and no one knows who I am, what I do, what I think, or that I simply don't care about some things. Ecstasy.

European road trip suggestions?

I'm thinking of doing a road trip from UK down through France to either Spain or Italy this summer... has anyone got any suggestions for places to go through or cheap things to do or general road trip advice?

House swaps?

Has anyone done a home swap? What/who did you use to arrange it? How long did you go for? Any other advice for a first timer?

We're hoping to spend late-Fall/early-Winter in France and are just starting to look at our options.

Thanks, ~maj
