Amazing Halong Bay
……………
We decided to book the Valentine boat owned by Indochina Sails. We chose the Valentine since the pictures of the boat, rooms, and common areas looked stunning. At least they did in the pictures. We were told that some boats the look nice in the pictures are very old but they use the pictures from when they first sailed. We also liked that this boat only had 5 cabins for a maximum of 10 people when some alternatives had as many as 25 cabins and 50 people.
The real reason to visit Ha Long Bay....
Ha Long trip report 2009
We slept okay but not great – the time difference was stil making sleeping through the night difficult. Up at 5 AM – plenty of time for pushups, shower, internet, breakfast and check-out. While we were ready for our driver at 8 AM, we weren't sure which side of the hotel he would come to. As it turned out, he came to the Classic Wing 20 minutes late, but we were traveling light so no big deal. What was a big deal was that I had reserved a 7-seat SUV for all of our travels and while the car that showed up was spacious, it was not what we had paid for.
Cruising in Ha Long Bay
Ha Long Bay in the northern province of Quang Ninh has thousands of islands and many beautiful areas.

Cruise on Ha Long bay by Indochina Sails
Halong Bay...
I know its been a while since I last wrote! Been quite busy with traveling but here is an entry I should have posted ages ago!!!!
Cruising Ha Long Bay and the island of Cat Ba
Another early morning start and the weather was still grey and overcast but at least it had stopped raining. The minibus picked us up at 7.45 and we spent the next hour doing a city tour picking up the other 10 people on the tour. Three hours later we boarded our ‘luxury’ boat which would take us to explore Ha Long bay. There were only 6 of of us on the our 16 berth boat which made things all the more personal with our tour guide ‘Suan’. Suan was a mine of information and we later found out she had studied tourism for 7 years at university.
Notes from Halong Bay
Ha Long Bay Tour Article
So we’ve been in Vietnam about four days and just got back from the Ha Long Bay boat tour. Stopping in a quality hostel called Hanoi Backpackers which is where all the cool kids hang out. If anybody comes you gotta stay here. The end of Laos was okay the capital Vientiane isn’t that great but we did Kayak there which was fun though we did still spend four hours on a tuk tuk which aren’t the most comfy things to ride in. I’m down my first camera got, it got stolen from the bucket bar in Vang Vieng after I was trying to help some Canadian kid out of a spot of bother!

Fascinating Cruise Trip in Halong Bay
Even if we hadn't already spent a week in the bustle and hustle of Hanoi, the mist-shrouded limestone peaks of Ha Long Bay, echoing birdcalls and water lapping our ship would have been enchanting.
Halong Bay - Offshore paradise
Spending a couple of days floating on the waters of Halong Bay is always an unforgettable experience for Duc Hanh (timeout)
Cruise through life
Three days and two nights floating on Halong Bay can bring you the unforgettable moment in your life. Duc Hanh explores.
I come to Halong at noon; the sun is high in the sky and burning bright. At the pier countless wooden junks, sailboats, speedboats and tiny bamboo boats bob around. After a four hour stint in the van from Hanoi, everybody is understandably itching to kick back and feel the sea breeze on board.

NORTHERN VIETNAM
Northern Vietnam’s climate is tropical. The dry season is cool, and lasts from October to April, while the wet season, from May to September, is warmer. The average temperature is 23°C.
Hanoi is not only the country’s capital but also the cultural centre of Vietnam. A modern city, it is home to over 600 pagodas and temples and offers visitors a chance to experience the culture and history within a constantly bustling urban setting.
Cruising, Spelunking, Kayaking, Thunder and Lightening
Mary Jeane told her kayak tour in Halong bay with her Vietnamese foster-child.
Halong Bay is the natural wonder in Vietnam. There are over 3000 limestone islands is this bay and it is absolutely spectacular. It doesn’t seem to matter where we go on this earth . . . I am always amazed at the splendor and diversity of what God has created for us to enjoy!

Vietnam's Spectacular Halong Bay
The scenery is breathtaking as you come to the shore of Halong Bay. Huge rocky monoliths jut out from the Gulf of Tonkin like rugged fingers, changing color constantly in the sunlight. There are literally thousands of limestone figures of all shapes and sizes. It is easy to understand why this is Vietnam’s most visited natural attraction.
Mountain Climbing, tunnel crawing kayaking on Halong, Vietnam
I’m writing this waiting to get the night train to Hue. We just came back from Halong Bay which was an overnight on a boat on the bay. It is a world heritage site and so beautiful. It was misty and a bit rainy but apparently that makes it more atmospheric although I’d say they just tell you that to shut people up moaning. It was a long trip in a mini bus to the bay and of course as usual with organised tours we had to stop at a souvenir shop for twenty minutes more like forty. When we got to the bay our boat was nice and the crew were lovely.
