Food is one of the important part of every culture, where it most important tradition are manifest. In Santander, the cuisine is full of ages-old recipes, creatively adapted to new culinary trend. Although the influence of the neighboring Basque and Austrian tradition, the Santander dishes is clearly differentiated from other culture and has its own personality.
Most of the land and hills of the place is rich in green pastures, giving the locally produced beef on its fine texture and unbeatable flavors. That’s why the place is famous for red meat dishes. The deep river are another prime source of food. King of all river fish, “the salmon” is caught there. Many Santander restaurants that famous in making “Sardina” (Sardines).
Seafood plays an important part in Santander cuisines, clams from Pedrena, mussels, giant crabs, goose barnacles and lobster. That’s why some restaurant here is a favorite place of the tourist.
With the glass of wine or beer accompanied by the personal choice of tapas, it makes the the tourist really feel the nature of Santander.
