La Merc Festival
It is a celebration of the city patron saint Mare de Deu de la Merc. This is one of the largest festival in Barcelona every end of September. The festival heralds the end of summer and the onset of the autumn months. This festival has a long, proud and first took place in 1902; the La Merc Festival today is the blend of tradition and innovation.
This festival has a massive amount of activities last few years of celebrations. The events are extraordinary, participated with 3000 artist and performers on display with over 500 activities to watch or even take part of it.
One of the most interesting activities is the Static hot air ballon flights, kite displays and other aerial exhibition taking the place throughout the festival on the city beaches. Most of the streets has filled with people and their activities, including the acrobatic circus act and various dance troupes and performing artist.
The culmination of the festival is called Piromusica - the finale involves music and a huge fireworks display choreographed together for an amazing audio-visual experience.
This activity is one way of showing what is behind the Barcelona, how they show their cultures and innovate it to this new generation.
