Syntax and buttons for Wikitravel links

When composing a blog entry, there should be button for creating links to Wikitravel. It would also be nice'n'intuitive if the standard Mediawiki link style could be used. (Come to think of it, it'd be even nicer if '''all''' formatting could be done Mediawiki style, but that's a taller order...)

You can, sort of...
The usual wiki linking like [ http:// | link word ] does work... try it.
Is there some other wiki features you'd like?
I keep wanting to sign my name with a ~~~~.
I'll look into what is required to write a new set of input filters to handle at least some wiki markup.

hmmm...
have you thought about all(?) (future) users (World66 and newcomers) who are not familiar with Mediawiki style formatting.... think twice !! (..."could be used/done" is OK, of course. :-)

Balance
I think we will have to find a balance between geek-friendly and general traveller-friendly.
At least at the start our user base is going to be slanted towards wiki folks since the W66/Wikitravel communities will have a stronger connection to the site.
But of course we want to keep the technological threshold very low -- it's the Wiki Way!

Take care
World66 users, in general, are not wiki folks in this respect that they are not at all familiar with wiki formatting. Edit boxes in W66 POI's offer limited html support, and that's it!

Good to know!
We'll make sure that neither the wiki stuff, nor any other "geek features" get in the way of non-technical users.
