The road conditions of NH17 from Mangalore to Goa after the recent floods of oct. '09 near Karwar and other neighbouring places

I want to drive to Goa mid October '09 from Mangalore to Goa. Could anyone who has travelled this route on NH17 from Mangalore to Goa tell me if it is advisable to drive to Goa & how are the roads. Thanks
